What is Hijama (Wet Cupping) Therapy?

Hijama cupping therapy is a traditional alternative medical treatment practiced in different cultures. The ancient Egyptians, Chinese culture, Arabic medicine, Greek medicine, and Prophetic medicine all practiced other types of cupping. Even though the crux of performing cupping is to alleviate the pain by increasing blood circulation and eliminating the toxins from the body. Cupping also helps to reduce pain and inflammation and increases blood flow which provides relaxation and well-being to the body.

 

 

How Dry Cupping and Hijama are performed?

1. Dry Cupping 

  • The air inside a plastic or glass cup is suctioned or vacuumed out by placing the cup on the skin. In most cases, the cups can be used at rest or while moving. The cup sucks the skin into it as a result of the suction. The ensuing suction pushes the blood deep within the body to the surface. Healing occurs as a result of the increased blood and energy flow. Cupping treatment is traditionally performed in groups of four, six, or ten cups. Typically, the cups are left in place for 5 to 20 minutes.

2. Wet Cupping

  • Wet cupping creates a mild suction by leaving a cup in place for about 8 minutes. The practitioner then removes the cup and uses a small scalpel to make light, tiny cuts on your skin. Next, suctioned to draw out a small quantity of blood. After which cups are removed, area is gentally wiped and cleaned. Then finishing with gently applied specialist oils to ease and heal cupped area.

People are increasingly seeking cupping to ease persistent muscular discomfort. Cupping may be used to treat a variety of different ailments.

How does Head and Neck Hijama (wet cupping) work and its effects?

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The best treatment is Hijama Cupping; it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.” (Reference: At Tirmidhi, 3053)

There are four main HIjama Sunnah points. They are called, Yafookh (located at head corwn point), Qamahduah (located at back of the head), Akhda'ain (located at right and left of the neck).
